We welcome proposals for papers (of twenty minutes in length) not just from historians and literary scholars, but also from lawyers, philosophers, art historians and those working in other disciplines on the variety of uses to which the vocabulary of republicanism was put in different times and places between c.1550 and c.1850, as well as the transmission, reception and transformation of republican ideas. The conference, organized by the Medieval and Early Modern Studies @ Newcastle research group, Newcastle University, will take place from Thursday 16 July to Saturday 18 July 2009 in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK. The keynote speakers are: Dr. Sharon Achinstein (University of Oxford), Professor Paul Hamilton (Queen Mary, University of London), Professor Markku Peltonen (University of Helsinki), Dr. Phil Withington (University of Cambridge) and Professor Blair Worden (Royal Holloway, University of London).
