SHAFR Commentator Sought: “Confronting the Limits of American Power During the Late 1960s.”

We are looking for someone to serve as commentator for our panel at the SHAFR conference, being held in Falls Church VA, June 25-27, 2009. Our panel is titled: “Confronting the Limits of American Power During the Late 1960s.” The majority of the papers deal with the Johnson administration. PhD Candidate Brian Clancy of the University of Western Ontario will examine LBJ’s March 31 address and its contribution to the Vietnam War’s de-escalation. Dr. Nicole Anslovern of Waldorf University examines Johnson’s decision-making restrictions after following his predecessors into Vietnam. PhD Candidate Harish Mehta of McMaster University will explore the impact of Hanoi’s international propaganda campaign on the war’s diplomacy. While PhD Candidate Eliza Matthews of the University of Queensland will examine the issue of nuclear proliferation during this tumultuous era. Dr. Sara-Jane Corke of Dalhousie University will serve as panel Chair.
