Call for Papers - Digital Piracy and the Death of Cinema
We are currently seeking contributions for an edited volume on the theoretical and practical issues that arise from digital film piracy. It is planned that the volume will take an interdisciplinary approach. As such, we are looking for articles that will address critically the digital downloading and copying of films from the perspective of film production, exhibition and reception; IT security; psychology of computers; and the law, among others.
We welcome submissions germane to any aspect of the digital downloading and copying of movies, including but not limited to the following topics:
•The repercussions for exhibition and distribution of film
•Technological issues that are raised by digital downloading and copying
•The relationship between PC ownership and film piracy
•Creative solutions to dealing with piracy
•Reviews of current technologies and their potential security
•Impact on reception
•Repercussions for intellectual copyright
This collection will address the question of whether or not digital piracy will bring about the death of cinema in its many facets (e.g. in terms of economics/production procedure and policy/aesthetics/technology etc). While the volume will appeal to specialists in the field of film and IT, it will also be aimed at a general audience. As such, articles should be written in a suitably accessible style. Please email extended abstracts (circa 1000 words) by January 31, 2009 to Christopher Duke or Niamh Doheny at chris@informationsystems.ie or niamh.doheny@nuigalway.ie
