CFP: “Chinese Alternative Genders, Same-Sex Sexualities and the Media”
International Association for the Study of Sexuality, Culture and Society Conference
April 15-18, 2009
We are soliciting submissions of paper proposals for a panel tentatively titled “Chinese Alternative Genders, Same-Sex Sexualities and the Media.” This panel converges loosely with the conference topic “Innocence and Scandal - Sexuality and the Mass Media.” Submissions are encouraged to relate to themes of cyberspace, public image/private reality, social movements and gender/sexual inequality, etc. Please see http://188.8.131.52/iasscsconf/ for more information.
We encourage both activist and academic paper submissions on alternative genders and sexuality in a Chinese cultural context - including the PRC, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and the Chinese diaspora, and in contemporary and historical contexts. The conference requires that submissions and presentations be in English, but we especially welcome presentations from speakers whose first language is Chinese.
Deadline for submission of abstracts to panel organizers: 25 October 2008.
Send paper title and abstract (max 300 words) to
Elisabeth Engebretsen at firstname.lastname@example.org or
Will Schroeder at email@example.com.
Include your name, current postion, and affiliation. If you would like to present with a co-author, please indicate this clearly inyour email.
You can apply for funding from: http://184.108.40.206/iasscsconf/scholarships.aspx Funding application deadline is 14 November 2008.
Please feel free to forward this email to people who may want to present on this topic at the conference.
