Encounters with otherness have been widely conceptualized and theorized from different discursive traditions, which in turn have demarcated the parameters and strategies for interaction amongst cultures and civilizations. For the inaugural volume of Encounters: An International Journal for the Study of Culture and Society, the editors would like to invite papers that critically explore the ways in which such encounters --whether of cultures, intellectual traditions, or social and political systems-- have been understood and theorized from different scholarly traditions. Contributions may include theoretical elaborations, critical assessments of different approaches, or case studies. Inter- and intra-disciplinary papers will be particularly welcomed. Please submit your paper (5,000 to 10,000 words) electronically in MS Word format, font size 12 to encounters@zu.ac.ae by March 1, 2009.
Authors should follow the Chicago Manual of Style, 15th edition, and Webster's Dictionary, 11th edition. The manuscript should be no more than 10,000 words double-spaced, including an abstract of up to 300 words, endnotes, a complete bibliography, and a short biographical summary, including institutional affiliation, recent publications, and current research. All papers published in Encounters will undergo a blind, peer-reviewed process
