CARVER ACROSS THE CURRICULUM
TEACHING the FICTION and POETRY of RAYMOND CARVER
Edited by Paul Benedict Grant and Sandra Lee Kleppe
Never before has the fiction and poetry of Raymond Carver been more widely discussed or taught: he appears across the curriculum in disciplines as varied as literary studies/American studies, Medical studies, Disability studies, and Film and Media studies in countries all over the world. Despite this, there is no volume that addresses the needs of instructors in preparing methods and approaches to teaching Carver's work at the undergraduate and postgraduate level. The time is ripe for such a book, and we are delighted to announce this call for submissions. We seek papers from those who have taught Carver in courses on: short fiction/American literature; life writing/biography; creative writing/MFA; academic writing/composition; comparative literature and intertextual studies; feminist studies/gender studies; editorship; nature writing; literature and medicine (e.g., cancer, alcoholism, writing as therapy); disability studies; fat studies; religious studies; political science; visual arts (painting, photography); film and media studies; translation studies. Abstracts (500 words) or full essays (5000 words) should be submitted no later than 31 October 2008. Final essay deadline: 31 January 2009. Our publisher is Cambridge Scholars Publishing. Four contributors whose essays are accepted will be invited to present their work at a Roundtable on "Teaching Raymond Carver" at the ALA conference in Boston, May 2009 (indicate whether you are interested in presenting). Please forward abstracts/essays and any questions to both editors:
