Half Day Workshop: 9:00 am–12:00 pm
Cost: $40.00(Additional fee if ONLY attending Thursday Workshop -- MARAC member...$5.00 Non-member...$10.00)
Instructor: Joseph M. Ciccone, Ciccone Archival Consulting
Although few archivists need to be legal scholars, all archivists should have a solid understanding of copyright law. Archivists have an obligation under the SAA's Code of Ethics to "be aware of the provisions of the copyright act and...inform potential donors of any provision pertinent to the anticipated gift." Knowledge of copyright law can also help archivists avoid placing both their institutions and themselves in legal jeopardy. In this workshop, participants will learn about recent developments in copyright law in the United States and review key cases and statutes (including the Digital Millennium Copyright Act) which comprise current copyright law. Through this process, participants will develop a basic understanding of current copyright law and how it pertains to the archival profession.
Location: Crowne Plaza Washington DC–Silver Spring
8777 Georgia Avenue Silver Spring, MD
