Lord Fairfax Community College's Center for Civil War History will host a one day seminar on November 1, 2008--Home Front to Front Line: Winchester's Civilians and the Civil War. This seminar will provide an in-depth look at the experiences of all civilians in one of the war's most contested town's during the Civil War--Winchester. The seminar will begin at the historic Godfrey Miller Home in downtown Winchester, Virginia. The lecture--"Winchester on the Eve of Civil War" will address the townspeople's reactions to John Brown's raid, secession, and the opening of armed conflict. In the afternoon a walking tour will provide participants with an understanding of the wartime experience of this community plagued by war. The tour will conclude in the Stonewall Confederate Cemetery and provide participants with an understanding of how area residents--namely women--helped shape the course of historical memory in the conflict's immediate wake.
The fee for the seminar is $20 and includes the morning lecture, handouts, and afternoon tour.
