INTERNATIONAL HRANT DİNK FOUNDATION and
BOGAZICI UNIVERSITY ATATÜRK INSTITUTE,
announce a workshop to be held in Istanbul, on the topic of ‘The Social and Economic History of Adana and its Districts’. The dates for the meeting are 21-22 November 2008.
The aim of the workshop is to promote and publicise academic research on social and economic transformations in the Adana region between 1838 and 1925.
Academic interest in the Adana region has lagged behind Western Anatolia, whose social and economic transformation during the same period has been extensively studied. While the two regions arguably experienced similar processes, scholarly works on the economic and social life and social movements in Cukurova (Cilicia) are few.
This workshop has been planned with the aim of initiating academic research that will contribute to remedying this imbalance.
The meeting is open to the participation of researchers working on the history, economic history, sociology, political science and demography of Adana and its region between 1838 and 1925.M
• Working languages of the meeting will be English and Turkish;
• Transportation and accommodation expenses of participants from outside Istanbul will be covered.
Researchers who would like to participate in this meeting should submit a 250-word summary of their papers, along with a CV to the address below until September 1st:
