“'Unpacking' Atlantic Canada” encompasses a broad range of topics that allow for consideration of the “region” as a whole, or some fraction of it. The organizing committee is especially interested in papers that position the region comparatively within the national or international context, that problematize the concept of region through the critical deployment of class, ethnicity, gender or generation as analytic categories, that analyse experiences and representations within the region that hinge on dichotomies – urban/rural, modern/anti-modern, progressive/conservative, truth/fiction, etc., or that query the dynamic relationships among academic, public and state forms of knowledge about Atlantic Canada. The committee welcomes proposals from academics, professionals in cultural and educational sectors both public and private, and other interested researchers. Proposals that do not fit the theme will also be considered.
Proposals for individual papers, sessions, workshops, and poster presentations should be no longer than one single-spaced page and should be accompanied by a short curriculum vitae for each presenter. Proposals may be submitted in either French or English. The deadline for submissions is 15 September 2008. Submissions will be adjudicated by members of the program committee and individuals who are selected may also be requested to complete additional forms to support funding applications.
