In 2008 Pro Helvetia Cape Town, the liaison office of the Swiss Arts Council, celebrates the first decade of its activities. In the past ten years it supported more than 500 projects bringing together artists from all over Southern Africa and Switzerland. An important field in these activities has been music, more specifically Hip Hop and Jazz. In this symposium, which is open to the public, artists, producers, educators and academics reflect on the state of popular music and jazz in South Africa and discuss the realities of exchange and cooperation. The conference is framed by performances and film screenings.
