The themed issue of IJSCC scheduled to appear in late 2009 will be devoted both to this inheritance and to the challenges and opportunities for the churches in the shaping of Europe today.
Articles of up to 8000 words are invited for this issue and may cover areas such as the following, though other topics of research are not excluded:

Historical inheritance as it effects the evolution of European churches in the 21st century
The place of the churches in the shaping of the emerging European Institutions and political realities

A critique of the ecumenical movement
New religious movements in Europe and their significance for its evolution
Issues of church and state
The self-understanding of national churches in relation to the corporate identity of Europe
The contribution of particular theologians and thinkers.
