Critical Studies in History (ISSN 1943-0795) is the official online journal of the History and Theory Reading Group based in New York. Newly founded, the journal publishes essays, position papers, research articles, and critical perspective pieces that explore the role of critical theory in history and the place of history in theoretical critiques. Not limited to the philosophy of history, the journal particularly favors studies that illuminate specific historical problems or make innovative historiographical interventions. The editors invite submissions of manuscripts appropriate to the aims of this open-access journal. Manuscripts should not exceed 7,500 words and will be peer reviewed in a double-blinded procedure.
The proposed theme for the forthcoming issues are:
Vol. 1 "The Role of Theory in History" (scheduled to appear in 2008; deadline for submission is JULY 31ST, 2008)
Vol. 2 "The Project of Modernity" (scheduled to appear in 2009)
The author is expected to follow these guidelines:
1. Submit manuscripts to email@example.com as an electronic attachment in Microsoft Word.
2. All manuscripts should conform to the footnotes/endnotes citation system of the Chicago Manual of Style, 15th ed. Please ensure that all quotations, titles, names, and dates are double-checked for accuracy.
3. Indicate in writing that the submission has not been previously published, nor is it under consideration for publication elsewhere.
4. Direct all questions, comments, or suggestions to: Howard Chiang, Founding Editor, Critical Studies in History E-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org
All issues of the journal will be published online in paginated PDF files. The journal is intended to provide more opportunities than traditional history journals in publishing historiographically-oriented pieces that bring critical theory to bear on the practice of historical scholarship.
