Call for papers: History of the Milwaukee Metropolitan Area
On Saturday, October 24, 2009, Urban Studies Programs, the Department of History, and the College of Letters & Science at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee will host a one-day research conference on the history of the Milwaukee. We invite proposals for papers on any topic in the history of the Milwaukee metropolitan area.
For many years, faculty, staff and students at UWM have promoted
scholarly study of the history of Milwaukee and its region. Most
recently, the 2004 Symposium on Milwaukee History, held at UWM in
conjunction with the meeting of the Urban History Association, sought to concentrate those efforts in an ongoing commitment to explore the history of the city and the region. The 2009 conference will also celebrate the publication of the papers from the 2004 Symposium, in Margo Anderson and Victor Greene, eds., Perspectives on Milwaukee's Past (University of Illinois Press, 2009).
Accepted papers for the 2009 conference will be organized into panels and considered for inclusion in an edited volume to be published after the conference. Limited travel support for authors from outside the Milwaukee area may be available.
Send one-page paper proposals and author's 1-page CV to Amanda I.
Seligman (seligman@uwm.edu) by September 15, 2008. Accepted authors will be notified by November 1, 2008 of their inclusion in the conference. Draft papers will be due for distribution to discussants on September 1, 2009.
Inquiries about conference details should be directed to Amanda I.
Seligman (seligman@uwm.edu) or Margo Anderson (margo@uwm.edu), or by phone to UWM's Urban Studies Programs, 414 229 4751.
