The return to private life of wartime actors – veterans and former resistance fighters, prisoners of war, civilian deportees, displaced populations and so on – remains an historiographical blind spot. This colloquium will explore the sources available for writing the intimate history of war’s aftermath and address in comparative-historical perspective the conceptual issues raised by twentieth-century conflict.
