Cultural Institutions in Early Modern Italy

This interdisciplinary workshop will evaluate the significance of lay cultural institutions such as universities and academies in the production, mediation and reception of the arts in Italy from c.1400 to 1650. International scholars working within the fields of history of education, music, language, literature, art/architecture, theatre, and gender will investigate this subject area by focusing on the activities of a variety of cultural institutions across different parts of the Italian peninsula to uncover the dynamic relationship between different aspects of cultural production and the environments that fostered them.
