Panel: "Intersections Between Orality and Postcolonial Theory."
Can postcolonial theory enrich our understanding of other verbal arts: folklore, creation and other mythology, jokes, riddles, puns? How does postcolonial theory complicate thinking about orality? And how does orality complicate thinking about postcolonial theory?
Papers are invited on any aspect of orality as it relates to postcolonial theory: oral history, ethnography, life story, pre-literate verbal art, collaborative/collective verbal art, “second-stage” orality, pop culture, resistance to literate culture, literacy studies, performance studies, second-language studies.
Abstracts of 100-300 words by Aug. 15, 2008.
