Lincoln Douglas Debates Workshop for Teachers

On Friday, June 13, 2008, the House Divided Project at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania will host an all-day professional development workshop for K-12 educators to mark the 150th anniversary of the Lincoln-Douglas Debates. Co-sponsors include the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History and the Pennsylvania Coalition for Representative Democracy (PennCORD). Presenters include noted Lincoln authors Harold Holzer, Matthew Pinsker, and Douglas Wilson. Participants will receive various classroom materials and will be introduced to a series of new web-based resources on the Civil War era. Advance registration is required. The cost will be $50 and includes breakfast and lunch. The first forty (40) Pennsylvania educators to register will have their fees paid by PennCORD and will have the option of reporting six (6) hours of professional development workshop credit under Act 48.
