Contributions are invited for a book proposal, “Themes in Modern European History”, aimed at providing an accessable account of the latest research trends, debates and controversies to graduates and undergraduates. Possible topics include:
The French Revolution and the impact of the cultural turn on its historiography
The Industrial Revolution and its Europe wide implications for the social, cultural and demographic life.
Theories of nationalism, the unfolding of the phenomenon in various regions of Europe and its impact on the elites, masses and peoples without a nation.
The rise and growth of socialism, its various strands and course from mid 19th century until the outbreak of World War II (comparison between Germany and France).
The rise and fall of liberalism in the 19th century (case study of Britain).
Christian democracy as a political and ideological force and its conflict with the rising nation states.
The rise and growth of fascism in interwar Europe (case studies of Italy and Germany).
Literary and cultural movements from Romanticism to Modernism
Thematic essays on the construction of race, gender and class
Feminist movement in modern Europe.
