The Columbia Undergraduate Journal of History is a new publication of the Undergraduate History Council at Columbia University. To solicit material, the Undergraduate History Council asks professors to nominate the most outstanding undergraduate work. We post all nominated articles on our website, and the editorial board then selects from among them for publication in the Journal and an invitation to the Herbert Aptheker Undergraduate History Conference. The three authors who are invited to the Herbert Aptheker Undergraduate History Conference receive a 150 dollar honorarium.
The Editorial Board is proud to release the online version of the Columbia Undergraduate Journal of History, and we look forward to expanding by accepting nominations nationally for subsequent issues. Visit cujh.columbia.edu to see our first issue.
Submission Guidelines:
All articles submitted to the Columbia Undergraduate Journal of History must be nominated by a professor at an accredited university or college. Teaching Assistants may also nominate papers, but should receive approval from the course professor.
The nominating professor certifies that the nominated article represents outstanding undergraduate scholarship. To nominate an article, the professor must send an email to cujh@columbia.edu, including:
The name and position of the nominating professor;
The institution in which the undergraduate is enrolled;
The class for which the paper was written;
The title of the nominated article;
The email address of the nominated author.
Nominated articles must include footnotes and a bibliography that conform to the Chicago or Turabian style guide. Articles should be submitted as word documents or rich text files.
