URBAN HISTORY ASSOCIATION - CALL FOR POSTERS
The Urban History Association seeks submissions for posters on all aspects of urban history across time and space for its Fourth Biennial Conference in Houston, Texas, on November 5-8, 2008.
We welcome posters that grapple with the conference theme - "Shock Cities: Urban Form in Historical Perspective" - and questions of rapid growth, urban form, and their consequences across time and also from a transnational perspective. “Shock cities” is a phrase associated with dominating modern cities with complex social hierarchies, diverse economies, and political or governmental crises. However, it need not be so restricted. The phrase evokes an array of urban issues in many places and in many eras, such as demographics, governance, economy, and physical form. Beyond the theme, the committee encourages all types of innovative presentations related to urban history.
Posters will hang in the exhibit room and can be placed there at any time during the meeting. We will ask presenters to stand by their posters for discussion at to-be-designated times on Saturday, November 8. Presenters should make their posters both informative and visually interesting. All posters will be listed in the program.
Submissions are due May 15, 2008 and should be sent via e-mail to Local Arrangements Chair Kathleen Brosnan (kbrosnan@uh.edu) and UHA Executive Secretary Janet R. Bednarek (Janet.Bednarek@notes.udayton.edu). Proposals should include a brief explanation of the poster and one-page c.v.
