The Centre for Intercultural Studies (CEI) of the Polytechnic Institute of Oporto (IPP), Portugal, is a permanent unit of applied and fundamental multidisciplinary research, that co-operates with other national and international institutions in scientific, technical and cultural projects.
CEI's target audience is the whole national and international community of teachers and researchers, graduate and post-graduate students.
The designation and goals of CEI comprehend the intercultural and multidisciplinary field created by the experience of its members, both as teachers and as researchers, in order to promote the development and circulation of scientific projects and programs, especially in the domains of literary, linguistic, communication, cultural, gender, translation, and globalisation studies, politics, education, international relations, law, cultures and societies.
The general objectives and main accomplishments of CEI are: 1. Produce and disseminate relevant knowledge in key areas of Intercultural Studies. 2. Increase the production, modernisation, and diffusion of knowledge and of scientific interchange, under an inter-disciplinary and inter-cultural approach, through: a) creation and participation in research groups; b) creation and participation in national and international editorial projects; c) organization, hosting and participation of/in national and international conferences, seminars, and colloquia. 3. Collaborate in the IPP’s strategy of advanced formation, by teaching graduate and post-graduate courses, including Erasmus students, while attracting students to the research activities of CEI. 4. Create a public informational support for the academic and non-academic community, through a library, a webpage and paper and digital editions.
