The City of Verona and the Veneto Region are promoting an international conference to celebrate the role and works of Piero Gazzola (1908-1979), on the occasion of the centenary of his birth year. The conference will take place in Verona on November 28-29, 2008.
This initiative is meant to give due recognition to the strategies for promotion and safeguarding of architectural heritage which Gazzola carried out in a particularly delicate stage of Italian and European history. Known at the international level for the preservation of monuments and architectural heritage, Gazzola was the Soprintendente ai Monumenti for the Western Veneto region from 1941 to 1973. Above all, his name is linked with impressive projects such as the restoration of Ponte Scaligero and Ponte Pietra in Verona and the plans for the Abu Simbel Temples.
Proposed abstracts (2000 keystrokes) must be sent via email to:
centenario.gazzola@comune.verona.it no later than May 23, 2008.
