Call For Papers – Oral History Forum
DEADLINE: 1 July 2008
_Oral History Forum_ is the journal of the Canadian Oral History Association. It serves as the premier meeting place for scholars, archivists, librarians, community activists and others who use oral history in their explorations of the past and present. For its inaugural volume (27-28 2007-8) as an electronic journal, _Oral History Forum_ invites the submission of scholarly articles for peer review as well as reviews, discussions, artwork and other contributions in the field of oral history and oral tradition. The online launch of this volume is planned for September 2008.
_Oral History Forum_ is international in authorship and content. We invite contributions from all disciplines and from academics, students, K-12 teachers, community historians, activists, artists, and others. Topics may include but are not limited to
- Connections between oral history and oral tradition
- Oral history methodology
- Theories of memory
- Theories of narrative
- Using oral history in the classroom (K-12, college, university, adult education etc.)
- Digital technologies in oral history
- Oral history and working-class history, women’s and gender history, the history of race, ethnicity and migration, indigenous history, environmental history, folklore studies, anthropology, sociology, etc.
- Ethics and oral history
- Art as oral history – oral history as art
- Testimony and activism
- Trauma and memory
Next to peer-reviewed articles, contributions may include:
- Reviews of books and other publications, museum exhibits, movies and documentaries, and plays;
- Reviews of digital technologies, including recording equipment and digitization of analog recordings;
- Work in progress and project reports;
- Sound or aural essays/features
- Annotated transcripts and audio or video recordings
- Interviews, including roundtables, with oral history practitioners (audio and/or transcript)
- Short experience reports (e.g. descriptions of oral history teaching units or projects)
- Plays, fiction, poetry, and other works of art, including non-textual works of art
Notes for authors:
Submit files in Microsoft Word or RTF document file format. Text should be double-spaced; use Times Roman 12-point font; employ italics, rather than underlining (except for URL addresses); all illustrations, figures, and tables should be placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end. The text should adhere to the Chicago Manual of Style, 15th edition. Use endnotes rather than footnotes. If submitting to the peer-reviewed section (Articles), remove the author’s name. Remove the author's name from the document's Properties, which in Microsoft Word is found in the File menu. The submissions may include audio and video files.
Deadline for submissions is 1 July 2008.
