CALL FOR PLAYS
The Religion and Theatre Focus Group (RT) of the Association of Theatre in Higher Education (ATHE) is seeking an original script for a staged reading during its pre-conference, which is focused around the ATHE theme: Difficult Dialogues. The preconference will take place July 29-31 in Denver, CO and will be followed by ATHE's 2008 annual meeting.
We will consider scripts on any topic that treats religion, broadly construed, i.e. spirituality, ritual, faith, dogma, theology, mysticism, holiness, etc. We will privilege scripts that bring into focus a difficult dialogue on the question of religion.
Scripts can be one-act or full-length unpublished works. Length should be no longer than 60 minutes (or roughly 30 double-spaced pages). Scripts may have been previously produced, but must not be published.
To submit, send a copy of the script as a word .doc attachment to Megan Sanborn Jones at msjones@byu.edu. Number the script pages, and do not include any biographical information except in your cover letter. Include a cover letter with your name, contact information, and a brief (100-200 word) synopsis of the play. Deadline for submissions is 1 May 2008.
Submitted plays will be reviewed by external readers, and one play will be selected for a reading at our preconference and potential publication in the Journal of Religion and Theatre. For more information about the Religion and Theatre Focus Group, contact our website at http://www.athe.org/rt/. For questions about this call for plays, contact Megan Sanborn Jones at msjones@byu.edu.
