Interstitio. East European Review of Historical Anthropology is a scholarly periodical published by Rethinking History Center, Institute of History and Political Sciences, Free International University from Moldova and Section History of Culture, Institute of History, State and Law, Academy of Sciences from Moldova in cooperation with Institute of History, Faculty of Social Science, University of Silesia in Katowice, Poland. The Editorial Board is assisted by scholars from Belarus, Germany, Romania, Russia and the United States of America. Subsequent issues of the Review will be edited alternately by Moldovan and Polish section of the Editorial Board. Each of them would be focused on a basic theme specified by the Editors.
Resuscitation of historical research in post-communist space is a process as slow and difficult as the rehabilitation of the whole societies affected by communism. Despite the immense progress made by historiography in the region since early 90s, it still suffers from the over-presence of ideology within the discipline and the willingness of many historians to distort history in the service of politics. The intentional neglect of many methodological trends and research strategies newly developed within the profession which is clearly visible in the case of numerous scholars could be contrasted with rapid and uncritical absorption of some of the latest ‘novelties’ by the others.
It is an essential aim of the Review to promote those new methods, directions and themes of research in historical scholarship which, critically (and at the same time creatively) applied, would enrich the profession of history within the post-totalitarian space of Central and Eastern Europe. This requires, among others, an ongoing, careful reconsideration of the current state of the art not only in historical studies but also in meta-historical ones. That is why the basic theme proposed for the 3rd issue is “History versus Metahistory”.
Therefore the Editorial Boards welcomes substantive articles on Central and Eastern Europe written from the perspective of the broadly conceived historical anthropology, especially those that would combine various forms of metahistorical reflection with concrete discourse on the past. Reviews and review articles discussing new publications within the humanities that deal with the region are welcomed as well.
