The Bunkier Sztuki Contemporary Art Gallery, Krakow, is organizing an international conference which is to inaugurate the celebration of the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue in Poland.
The conference will undertake the question of intercultural dialogue in the sphere of visual arts, aiming at revealing the very importance of discussing and understanding social phenomena. As such, it will deliver a theoretical background to the collection of individual artistic exhibitions composing the Transkultura [Transculture] project (see: www.transkultura.pl). We are therefore calling for applications with proposals of articles that would correspond with the conference theme and could thus make additions
to one of its panels.
The problems we intend to explore during the conference include:
1. Art versus social experience. The role of artists and curators in
shaping social changes
2. Contemporary migrations: causes – directions – problems
3. The concepts of ‘the Stranger’ / ‘the Other’
4. Intercultural dialogue in contemporary societies
Applications should be handed in by e-mail until April 6th, 2008, and should comprise CV and abstract of the research/artistic project or paper (max. 1800 characters with spaces) that shall be presented in the framework of the conference.
