I am organizing a session at the 2008 American Society for Ethnohistory meetings in Eugene, Oregn (November 12-16, 2008).
The session's topic is commemoration of historical events by the indigenous peoples of North and South America. While my own paper deals with the 2004 Centennial celebration of the so-called "last Tlingit potlatch," I am seeking papers on such topics as commemoration of battles, colonial "entradas," and so forth. The focus of the session on the various forms of Native American historical consciousness as revealed by these commemorations.
If you would like to take part in this session, please e-mail me at sergei.a.kan@dartmouth.edu.
