Grand Valley State University and the Michigan Freedom Trail Commission announce The Underground Railroad in Michigan - A Decade of Discoveries Conference
This conference will commemorate the tenth anniversary of the Michigan Freedom Trail Network, the National Network to Freedom, and the Bi-centennial of President Abraham Lincoln's life. The theme of the conference A DECADE OF DISCOVERIES, highlights the increase in research and new discoveries made since the National Network to Freedom and the Michigan Freedom Trail were established in 1998.
The conference conveners seek a diversity of presenters who teach, interpret, research and circulate stories of people and places in Michigan and surrounding states where Underground Railroad and anti-slavery resistance occurred.
By June 1, 2008, interested presenters should submit a brief 300-word description for an informational panel, creative presentation, or research report electronically to areastudies@gvsu.edu with the subject heading: Underground Railroad Conference --African/African American Studies.
Session proposals should included a one page resume or biography of the presenter(s) with complete mailing address, email, and phone number. Presenters will not be required to pay registration fees.
