UCLA Extension Online: Preparing for MFA Programs: An Advanced Workshop
April 9 to June 11, 2008
This online course addresses the process from the group up. Guests from top MFA programs discuss their programs, and current and former students from both full-residency and low-residency programs talk honestly about what to expect in terms of workload.
Equally important is the focus on your creative work, which is honed in bi-weekly workshops and via one-to-one rewrites with the instructor, with the goal of ensuring an application packet that is appropriate for your targeted university.
Writing sample required. Requirements are a piece up to 3,000 words or for novel, playwriting, and memoir courses, the sample should be an excerpt from the project you plan to work on during the course. Include your, name, address, email and phone #, along with a cover letter, as a word doc or pdf. Submit to firstname.lastname@example.org
Limited to 12 students.
Instructor: Tod Goldberg is the author of the novels Living Dead Girl, a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize, and Fake Liar Cheat, a finalist for the Nevada Arts Council prize.
