Girls’ Culture/Girls’ Studies
We are seeking papers, panels, workshops, and presentations that examine the relationship between girls and culture for the Midwest Popular Culture Association/Midwest American Culture Association annual conference to be held in Cincinnati, Ohio, October 3-5, 2008.
Possible girl-centered topics include: subcultures; popular culture; high culture; play; toys; crafts; education; clubs; history; art; literacy/language; technology; sports/games; media/communications; fiction/writing; music; religion; employment; violence; slavery; incarceration; museums; drugs; politics; the body; race; sexuality, dance; identity; fantasy, emotions (“love sick,” “puppy love”) etc.
Please submit a 200-word abstract (panels consist of three papers and chair/commentator) and the name, affiliation, address, telephone number, and e-mail of each presenter/participant.
Proposals should be emailed to: Miriam Forman-Brunell (Girls’ Culture/Girls’ Studies Area Chair) by April 30, 2008.
