The Philippine Academic Consortium for Latin American Studies (PACLAS) will hold its first international conference in December 15-17, 2008, Manila to be hosted by the City Government of Manila and the University of the Philippines.
The conference theme is as follows:
The Philippines and Latin America: Past, Present and Future
While PACLAS as an academic consortium is generally geared to historical and cultural studies, we have broadened the theme to encourage wider participation to include other disciplines. Papers are encouraged to take into account the historical and cultural contexts of questions and issues under consideration. We look forward to a multi-disciplinary engagement in this conference.
The registration fee, which includes conference documents plus lunch and refreshments, is US$ 150 for foreign participants and PhP 3,500.00 for local participants. Registration forms will be sent out with the Second Announcement in mid-2008.
Proposals for individual papers and panels are now being accepted. Deadline for submission is on May 15, 2008.
