This program presents current research related to youth violence and harassment in the school setting and how bullies, victims, bystander students, teachers, families, and community members all play a role in the prevention and intervention of youth violence and peer victimization in schools.
Topics
-implementing overall school safety strategies
-successful prevention and management of difficult student behaviors
-types of youth violence and peer victimization (bullying)
-popular misconceptions about bullies and victims
Practical classroom management strategies, suggestions, and issues regarding caregiver involvement in problem-solving, legal issues and procedures related to youth violence, and threat assessment and crisis response are addressed.
At the end of the program, participants will possess reference materials on
-crisis plans
-key role players in identifying violence
-current legal ramifications
-recommendations on appropriate measures
-current research papers, and
-best practices in district management
