The Modern Language Association (MLA) Committee on Disability Issues in the Profession invites you to submit proposals for the 2008 MLA Convention in San Francisco, for a workshop titled, "Disability in Context: Personalizing the Profession."
We encourage the submission of proposals and/or abstracts for a session on experiences with disability in the academic profession. This panel will take the format of a workshop, with audience participation, so individual presentations should be more informal and shorter in length than conventional scholarly presentations at the MLA, which run 15-20 minutes. Subjects include but are not limited to: the hiring process and professional advancement; ADA compliance at academic institutions; the teaching of Disability Studies or related courses; defining disability; the treatment of faculty members throughout their lifespan in academia. We welcome submissions from every stage of the profession, from graduate students through retired academics.
Your e-mail submission should include a brief explanation of your proposal, your name, institutional affiliation, address, and phone number; please include an abbreviated (2-page) version of your CV as an attachment. Submissions should be sent to kfinn@miami.edu or eosucha@bates.edu no later than 25 March 2008. Participants will be notified of selection by 1 April 2008.
