Lessons in anatomy made easy:
Anatomical models in scientific and cultural context.
MUSEUM BOERHAAVE
6-7 november 2008,
Leiden, The Netherlands
On the 6th and 7th of November 2008 Museum Boerhaave organises an international conference on anatomical models in their scientific and cultural context. The reason for this conference to be organised is the restoration of the Museum Boerhaave collection of Auzoux’s papier-mâché anatomical models.
The conference focuses on the multidisciplinarity of modern day conservation of anatomical models. Today a restoration project needs historical as well as technical input. In four sessions the subject is approached from different angles:
I) Materiality of models
II) Papier-mâché in science and arts
III) The Auzoux project
IV) Changing roles of anatomical models
Museum Boerhaave invites historians of science, art historians and conservators with an interest in anatomical models, whether made from wax, plaster, papier-mâché or glass, to attend this conference.
