Panel title: Unequal Childhoods
For “RETHINKING INEQUALITIES, LASA conference, June 11-14, 2009, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
This double panel applies the conference theme of rethinking inequalities to young people throughout Latin America. We invite papers on two general themes relating to childhood and inequality: (1) broader processes that structure childhood in unequal ways (for instance, the power structures affecting children in intergenerational relations within the family context, or the effects of poverty or policy on children) and (2) the specificities of how broad inequalities (global, geopolitical, social) are expressed through informal, domestic, and international adoptions.
Please send a paper title and a brief abstract (in English, Spanish, or Portuguese, bearing in mind that the language must be that in which you will present your paper) to both co-organizers:
Jessa Leinaweaver, j_leinaweaver@umanitoba.ca, and
Diana Marre, Diana.Marre@uab.es
by Monday, March 10. Abstracts must be 50-70 words long.
Note: If you will be requesting a travel grant from LASA pursuant to their instructions at http://lasa.international.pitt.edu/congress/faqs_grants.html
please indicate this on your abstract, as only one participant per panel may request funding.
