The Center for American Music at the University of Pittsburgh will be hosting our third Summer Institute for Teachers on July 7-August 8, 2008, sponsored by the National Endowment for the Humanities. Entitled “Voices Across Time: Teaching American History Through Song,” we spend five weeks focusing on broad topics in American history, utilizing popular songs as primary source documents. All educators currently teaching in grades K-12 throughout the U.S. are eligible to apply and a stipend is provided. DEADLINE for applications is March 3, 2008.
This institute is for any middle- and high-school teachers of social studies or related disciplines, including history, geography, and language arts; other grade levels and disciplines (including music) are also encouraged to apply. Additional information, along with application materials, is available at www.voicesacrosstime.org or
email: firstname.lastname@example.org (please indicate NEH Institute in the subject line). More information about the NEH and its programs is available at www.neh.gov.
