Call for papers on Latin American independence

In preparation for a special issue marking the bicentennial of Latin American independence, the Hispanic American Historical Review invites submission of article-length manuscripts that address current debates on the causes, processes, and/or consequences of national independence in the region. In reviewing those submissions, the journal’s editors will give highest priority to essays that (a) propose new theoretical or methodological perspectives on independence, or (b) make large arguments concerning the region as a whole, or some significant portion of it; or (c) examine Latin American independence from comparative or global perspectives. Scholars interested in submitting manuscripts should send an abstract, not to exceed 500 words, and clearly explaining how your work advances current understandings of independence, to Sara Lickey, Managing Editor, HAHR, hahr@pitt.edu. Deadline for submission of abstract: May 1, 2008. On the basis of their review of those abstracts, the editors will invite full-length manuscripts, which will undergo the journal’s normal process of peer review.
