Intersections of the urban environment, the humanities, and social change will be explored at the Cityscapes conference, March 27-29, 2008, hosted by the Baker-Nord Center for the Humanities at CWRU and The Cleveland Institute of Art. Session topics include: Creating and Performing Community; Contested Spaces and Social Divisions; Organizing the City; Knowing, Remembering and Imagining the City; Representation and Urban Spaces; Marketing the City. The event features the exhibition of Carl Pope’s conceptual art project The Mind of Cleveland and a keynote address, “Days of Race: Democracy and Black Reconstruction in the Work of Carl Pope” by Nicholas Mirzoeff (New York University), as well as “Looking at Cleveland’s Future” by Norman Krumholz (Levin College of Urban Affairs, Cleveland State University), and public artist Lee Quiñones presenting his mural project at Lincoln-West High School in Cleveland.
