The Law, Religion, and Culture Group invites submissions for its panels to be held at the American Academy of Religion Annual Meeting in Chicago, November 1-3, 2008. We accept paper and panel proposals, including author-meets-readers panels, on any aspect of the cultural, historical, critical, and comparative study of the intersections of law and religion, including legal categories in religious traditions, the treatment of religion within legal traditions, human rights, and freedom of religion and belief. This year we especially welcome submissions on the following themes: trials as a method of social control; the definition of "law" and "religion" in premodern contexts; and the role of legal categories in the study of religion. Together with the Religion and Colonialism Consultation, we encourage proposals on the interaction of law and religion in colonial and postcolonial contexts, including the effect of colonialism on indigenous systems of law and religion. Online submissions are encouraged. For instructions, see www.aarweb.org/Meetings/Annual_Meeting/Current_Meeting/Call_for_Papers/
