We are interested in putting together a panel on literary parody in Japanese literature for the 2008 AJLS conference to be held at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada, August 19-21st, 2008. The goal of our panel is to examine self-conscious texts that deliberately parody or resist literary conventions or institutions, especially but not exclusively for ethical purposes. We would be particularly interested in papers that address theoretical questions of genre, media, (literary) language, or narrative structure in their analysis of the aims or effects of parodic texts. Please respond to Marc Yamada and Chris Weinberger if you are interested: my@byu.edu
