In honor of The Feminist Art Project, the Milwaukee Avenue Arts Corridor (MAAC) seeks papers that address the interrelated nature of feminism and social justice. Feminism is not a fixed notion; its parameters continue to expand and develop new relationships with myriad political, social and cultural issues. The intersection of these themes with the concept of feminism allows for greater understanding of work created by feminist artists. Papers should not privilege gender, but see it in conversation with issues pertaining to the environment, racism, censorship, war, sexual violence or globalization. Papers may address historical or contemporary art practice.

The symposium will be held in conjunction with the exhibition Feminist Interrogations at ARC Gallery (832 W. Superior Street, #204). It will be a one-day event held at Intuit (756 N. Milwaukee Avenue), with a closing reception at Woman Made Gallery (685 N. Milwaukee Avenue).
