Autobiographical Non-Fiction Film in Contempoary Germany
Paper proposals are sought for a panel on this topic at the German Studies Assocation taking place October 2-5, 2008 in St. Paul, Minnesota
Affordable, accessible digital video technologies have been a powerful enabling factor in the emergence memory cultures worldwide. This panel investigates the recent trend towards autobiographical non-fiction among experimental and independent filmmakers in contemporary Germany. Of particular interest is the theorization of how digital technologies shape access to the self, as well as how the wider terrain of historical and social forces engender identity on screen.
