CALL FOR PAPERS
FIRST INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON THE HISTORY AND CULTURE OF BATMAN AND ITS VICINITY
(15-17 April 2008)
The city is not a simply inhabited space. Beyond that, it is a location of identity, belonging and dynamic human production processes. Seen from this perspective, Batman is an urban centre which appeared in the history quite late. The history of its emergence is no longer than 50 years. However, it is a living laboratory for urban historians, sociologists and indeed for all social scientists with its unique components and new structuration strategies. We are facing a newly emerging and rapidly developing city that could offer valuable new insights for the scientific world. Despite being in its infancy in urban historical terms, Batman is located in a rich historical region in which civilizations emerged. For example, Hallam Celi, one of the oldest known settlements, Hasankeyf, a renowned Middle Age capital city, and Erzen, a newly discovered Middle Age capital are all located in Batman county. Batman, experiencing its limited history quite intensely and deeply, wants to join in to the history of eminent experiences of humanity and in this regard take its place which it deserves to occupy.
The main themes of the congress are attached.
