Theme: Activating American Cultures: The Politics of Identity, Media, and Public Policy
Chesapeake American Studies Association Conference, April 4-5, 2008 (University of Maryland, College Park)
Proposals for papers and sessions should address the following topics: the uses of the academy (teaching multiculturalism and media literacy, advocacy, outreach), the practice of art and architecture (painters, museums, historical societies); the role of local media in communicating political messages; how of progressive organizations foster civic engagement. Proposals are encouraged to include: 1) the historical perspective 2) the role of diversity, 3) the connection of regional practices to nationwide and global activities; 4) a consideration of the implications of being an advocate for social justice.
