Symposium
The Early-Modern British Atlantic c.1500-1834
2-4 April 2008
School of History, University of Nottingham
Funded by the Economic History Society and the
Humanities and Social Sciences Strategy Group (University of Nottingham).
There is little opportunity for Atlanticists working in the UK and Ireland to come together as a discipline. This symposium brings together scholars from Great Britain and Ireland to discuss their work in progress within the conceptual framework of Atlantic history. Its aims are not only to share ideas on current work, but to promote networking and bring together junior and senior scholars in the field. Speakers have been invited to encompass as wide a range of subjects as possible. They include: Trevor Burnard, Barbara Bush, Cecily Jones, William O’Reilly, Simon Smith, and Tony Tibbles. There will also be a round table forum on teaching Atlantic history and a session on presenting Atlantic history to the public. There are a couple of fully-funded places left for those giving papers. To submit an abstract for a paper please email sheryllynne.haggerty@nottingham.ac.uk
