CALL FOR PAPERS
WORKSHOP: ETHNICITY AND IMMIGRATION IN THE BALTIC REGION

The Association for the Advancement of Baltic Studies (AABS) invites paper and panel proposals for a workshop to examine the history, politics, and culture of ethnicity in the Baltic Sea region. The workshop will be held in conjunction with the 21st Conference on Baltic Studies, “Baltic Crossroads: Examining Cultural, Social, and Historical Diversity.” The goal of the workshop and the conference is to examine the interactions of diverse ethnic and religious groups in the countries surrounding the Baltic Sea.
Questions the workshop would like to address include:
1. the historical and recent transformation of minority relations in the Baltic States and the impact on their business, political, and expressive cultures
2. the effect of the enlargement of the European Union to the Baltic countries on emigration and immigration
3. the Baltic demographic challenges in negotiating their participation in a globalizing political, economic, and cultural world.
