The Southern Industrialization Project (SIP) is seeking scholarly papers for presentation at its workshop at the annual meeting of the Southern Historical Association, to be held October 9-12, 2008 in New Orleans. The theme of this year's workshop is "The Industrialization of Southern Agriculture". Proposals should address any long term issue related to the process of modernizing Southern agriculture from the antebellum period to the twentieth century. Suggested topics include: farm management rationalization, farm technologies, mechanization, chemical fertilizers, food processing industries, viticulture, aquaculture, tobacco processing, timber or naval stores, and the rise of agribusiness. Anyone working on these or related topics is encouraged to submit a 500 word abstract and one page cv by March 5, 2008, to Robert Gudmestad, Chair of the Program Committee at Robert.Gudmestad@colostate.edu
