Call for Papers: Visual Cultures of War, Journal of War and Culture Studies
The twentieth century was marked by the development of new visual media and innovative approaches to traditional art practice, a process which continues into the twenty-first century. However, the occurrence of war has sometimes occasioned regression and sometimes new directions in the arts. Scholarly activity has tended to focus on the historical and political context of visual culture, often to the exclusion of aesthetic considerations.
This issue will attempt to re-address the balance between context and forms in visual cultural production and to reassess its place in our understanding of the relationships between war and culture, both during and after conflicts.
