Call for Papers: “Documenting Upheaval: Accounts of Witness, War, and Displacement”

The Society for American Travel Writing, a member society of the American Literature Association, issues a call for papers for two sessions at the ALA conference in San Francisco, CA. Entitled “Documenting Upheaval: Accounts of Witness, War, and Displacement,” the sessions will explore depictions of war and displacement in travel writings by “American” authors or about “America” or “Americans.” Approaches may include (but are not limited to):
•Damage caused by war (human, landscape/cityscape)
•Captivity narratives
•Depictions of danger and/or death
•Sites of struggle, sites of violence
•Political witnesses
Papers should by 20 minutes in length.
